Business Support Project Officer (BSPO): Scottish Handball Association (SHA)

Background:

The Scottish Handball Association was delighted to be named the "Scottish Sports Governing Body of the Year" in December 2022.  Since then, we have kept developing and growing, and have – in the last year – increased our reach to record levels.

The Scottish Handball Association leads the development of Handball in Scotland and has made significant progress in the ongoing development of our outstanding sport.  Working with SportScotland, the European Handball Federation (EHF), the International Handball Federation (IHF) and a range of other Partners, this is an opportunity for the right person to join an established, growing, community-minded SGB at a brilliant time in our own story.

Role Overview:

The Business & Project Support Officer (BSPO) will work together with the Chief Executive Officer (CEO), the Performance & Development Manager (DM), our Finance Support (FS), the Development Officers (DO’s), our Social Media & Digital Officer (SMDO) and Board members to support our activities across Events, Competitions, Equality, Finance, AGM’s, HR, Child Protection and the National Academy to help further develop and maintain an effective operational platform for the management and growth of SHA SGB (Scottish Governing Body of Sport).  This critical role will further enable and support the development of Handball throughout Scotland. The emphasis will be on helping us continue to provide an effective organisational platform to create sustainable success and the delivery of competitions and events that build reputation, brand and membership.

The BSPO will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Scottish Handball Association (SHA). They will work as a team with the Performance & Development Manager (& DO’s as required), the Board and key volunteerscontributing to the development and implementation of organizational strategies, policies and practices.

The BSPO is responsible for helping to support and / or manage the organizations’:

  • Competition & Event Logistics and associated Admin Support
  • National Academy administration support
  • Project Support (e.g. AGM presentations / Returns)
  • HR & Training administration
  • Income generation support activity; and
  • Kit supplier relationship support
  • Any other reasonable administrative tasks as may be required from time to time

Helping to co-ordinate the logistics, promotion and administration of Scottish Handball SGB’s portfolio of competitions and events will also be key – to ensure that our successes and stories are told and amplified in the best ways possible.

They will also help to maintain organizational and program budgets in collaboration with the CEO and other colleagues as required.  They will also work with sportscotland staff, external providers, competition and events organisers to build knowledge and create opportunities for the SHA to build the capability of volunteers and the reach of the sport.

Time commitments:

This is envisaged as a part-time role, c. 20 hours (although we are open to other solutions), but ideally one that could provide some input each day of the working week. The nature of the post means that hours will not regularly fall within a conventional working day.  Some evening (and occasional weekend) work will likely be necessary to fulfil the purpose of the role.

Remuneration & Term:

c. £22 – 24,000 p.a. (dependent upon experience and pro-rata) plus generous holidays & SHA pension arrangements.
